“It is your right to endlessly curate your life.”
The much anticipated new book by international bestselling author Lang Leav. A breathtakingly beautiful collection of contemporary poetry and prose, offering powerful insights into love, heartbreak, relationships, and self-empowerment.
Filled with wisdom and encouragement, every single page is a testament to the power of words, and the impact they can have on the relationships you build with others. And most importantly, the one you have with yourself.
Lang Leav captures the intricacies of emotions like few others can. It’s no wonder she has been recognized as a major influencer of the modern poetry movement and her writing has inspired a whole new generation of poets to pick up a pen.
Love Looks Pretty on You is truly the must-have book for poetry lovers all over the world. (Goodreads)
This is my first ever Lang Leav book. I just couldn’t resist the hype surrounding this author, and I thought it’s about time to read her work. Big thanks to NetGalley and Andrews McMeel Publishing for giving me a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
The book is an odd mixture of quotes, tips, poetry and short prose that are all meant to inspire. The theme centers on all kinds of love: romantic, filial, destructive love, platonic, and self-love. I appreciate the simplicity of the language, and the honesty of the emotions in each piece.
However, I have to be honest and say that it’s not as cohesive as I would have liked. The collection has a sort of disjointed feel to it. I did not connect with most of it, some can be confusing and some are almost preachy (which I really detest). The pieces felt deeply personal to the author, which is not so bad in itself but in this situation it feels like this created a gap between the author and myself as the reader.
I am still giving this a 3⭐️ rating because admittedly, there are a few gems within the collection. I liked the interpretation of nostalgia from childhood memories, the love for mothers and the rare empowering statements. I can imagine how other people would love this more than I did. I actually bought a copy to give as a gift to a friend who just had her heart broken, and she told me this book really helped her healing process. I am grateful to Lang Leav for that.
Will I be reading other Lang Leav books? Probably. Do I think I will like all her works? I do not expect to, but I can’t ignore that she has a powerful voice that demands to be heard.
Let me leave you by sharing my favorites from the collection, and please do share your thoughts on them as well 💖
